About
LignoTech Florida, established in 2018, is a joint venture between Borregaard ASA (55% ownership) and Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc. (45% ownership). Located in Fernandina Beach, Florida, the facility specializes in producing lignin, a natural polymer derived from wood and a co-product of the sulphite cellulose manufacturing process. The plant has an annual production capacity of 100,000 dry metric tons of lignin, with plans for a potential expansion of an additional 50,000 dry metric tons.
The $110 million investment in LignoTech Florida has significantly contributed to the local economy, creating over 60 high-paying jobs in the Fernandina Beach community. The facility processes lignin into value-added, environmentally friendly products that serve as alternatives to fossil fuel-based materials in industries such as construction, agriculture, and other industrial applications.
The establishment of LignoTech Florida has been supported by local and state governments, including the City of Fernandina Beach, Nassau County, and the State of Florida, facilitating economic growth and sustainability in the region.
